“Wouldn’t it also mean that love really exists? It’s just a nice thought, that’s all. That an emotion, a force, could be so powerful as to stop all the evil in
In the war against the Forces of Darkness, the Royals are losing. Princess Ivy is determined to end this centuries-long conflict once and for all, so her new battle partner must succeed where the others failed. Prince Zach’s unparalleled skill with a sword, enhanced by Ivy’s magic Kiss, should make them an unstoppable pair—but try convincing Zach of that.
Prince Zach has spent his life preparing for battle, but he would rather be branded a heretic than use his lips as nothing more than a way to transfer magic. A kiss is a symbol of love, and love is the most powerful weapon they have—but try convincing Ivy of that.
With the fate of their world on the line, the battlefield has become a testing ground, and only one of them can be right. Falling for each other wasn’t part of the plan—but try convincing their hearts of that.
My Review: (SPOILER FREE!)
THIS BOOK GUYS. SO GOOD. At first I was very hesitant because the premise is girls have magic but only the men can use it….. So I was like um…… why? But thankfully this changes and the premise develops and OOF GUYS. SO GOOD.
Plot: I’m gonna be honest, the plot was a little basic ya fantasy but it still had redeeming qualities. There was a lot of adventure and action and it was SOOO magical! That really got me because I haven’t read a very magical-feeling book in a long time. Also, the plot was predictable at times, but still very enjoyable. Love is a central theme without having a lot of romance and oof I loved it.
Writing: I am now in love with Lindsey Duga’s writing. It is so perfectly detailed; it flows so well and ugh, I love it so much. She built the world so well and did a fantastic job creating the magical feeling of the book. I’m having trouble describing the writing, but just know, I loved it. It is actually pretty rare that I fall in love with writing style so I was very pleasantly surprised.
Characters: guys….. such good characters. They were so complex and lovable and UGH GUYS!!!!!!!!! ZACH!!!!! His quotes are so beautiful but also so funny and I want to marry him. Brom is adorable and the sibling relationship between him and the MC is so lovely. Lastly, the MC Ivy is incredible; she is so fierce and her transformation throughout the book is incredible. There is also a character towards the ending of the book who is so real and badass, she has elemental magic too so obviously she’s awesome.
Originality: This is one of the most original books I’ve read in a very long time. Just the premise itself is so unique: magical kisses???? yes???? Also the world itself and the way logic and love were divided in society was very unique, in my opinion. Everything about this book was genuinely just very unique to everything I’ve read, besides some plot points.
Pace: Pacing is something that is really important for me; it makes or breaks books for me for sure. Thankfully, this book had very good pacing. I was interested the entire time I was reading. There weren’t many points where I felt like I NEEDED to keep reading, but I enjoyed it thoroughly and never felt uninterested.
Ending: The ending….. It was very rushed, I’ll give it that, but I honestly loved it. Everything works out and I LOVE happy endings, so I loved it. The epilogue was absolutely perfect and THAT LAST LINE…. my heart felt so full when I finished this book and, to me, that’s the best feeling.
Thank you so much for reading my review! I really hope you enjoyed, and if you want to chat about this, feel free to comment! 🙂
